Alleged Assassination Attempt of the Day: Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, the 21-year-old Idaho Falls resident who allegedly fired several shots at the White House last Friday, was charged today with attempting to assassinate the President or his staff.
The Obamas and their children were not in D.C. at the time of the shooting.
Ortega-Hernandez, who was arrested yesterday afternoon in Indiana, PA, has a history of mental health issues, and, according to acquaintances, referred to Obama as the “anti-Christ,” and believed he was on a mission from God.
Ortega-Hernandez is accused of firing as many as nine bullets at the White House, including one that hit the living quarters but was stopped by bulletpoof glass. “FBI investigators conducted a search of the area around the White House and located several confirmed bullet impact points on the south side of the building above the second story,” said FBI agent Chris Ormerod according to court documents.
The suspect was taken into custody following a 12-minute hearing, and will be transported back to Washington D.C., where his trial will take place. If convicted, Ortega-Hernandez faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
